In the arguably the most impactful stage for the GC, Dan Martin launched his attack at a perfect time and got himself into serious contention. Martin watched as the early breakaway failed and then got together with his team to set the pace up the final climb. After his teammates were finished slaughtering the field, Martin launched his attack and there was nobody in the tired peloton that could match. Martin turned himself inside out for the final kilometers and managed to preserve a 20 second advantage at the finish, which was more than enough to give him the lead in the General Classification as well. Grega Bole backed up his strong performance in yesterday's stage by taking 2nd, beating the rest of his chasing group and keeping his 2nd overall. Alessandro Ballan, Sylvester Szmyd, and Michael Albasini (3rd, 4th, 5th respectively) also kept on pace with the chasing group and kept themselves well within contention for the race. They are all now chasing Dan Martin, who along with his Garmin Transitions team is confident that he can hold this lead and take the overall win. Stage Results
