Matthew Goss opened up the Tour of Denmark in style by outsprinting teammate Mark Renshaw and others to win stage 1. Goss, winner of this year's Philadelphia Championship, was lead out nicely by his HTC Columbia team and took the stage as well as the leaders and points leaders jerseys. One of his main competitors was teammate Mark Renshaw. Renshaw, best known as the leadout of Mark Cavendish, decided to give it a go himself but was clearly happy to see Goss cross the line first. (He fist pumped as he watched Goss win) Though the sprint was very entertaining to watch, today was important for another reason.
It was the professional debut for young Taylor Phinney, the young 20 year old phenom for team Radioshack. Phinney rode fairly well, finishing 29 seconds behind the main field in a rather large chasing group. The field did encounter some crash problems on the run in to the finish, and this caused some time gaps to be opened.Stage Results
