Alberto Contador has made the long awaited announcement, saying that he has signed up to join manager Bjarne Riis with the Saxo Bank-Sungard team for 2011. (Sungard will be co-sponsor starting next year) This was an incredible pickup for Riis, who was facing a very difficult situation in his search for a top rider after the Schleck brothers announced that they would be leaving after 2010. The interesting thing to watch now is the shuffle of the domestiques. Several of Contador's Spanish teammates with Astana have expressed interest in going where he goes, and it will be intriguing to watch whether Riis will also offer them a contract. It is also unknown how many of Saxo's current domestiques will elect to stay with Contador or choose to perhaps join the Schleck's on their new team. (they are currently undecided, though looking into options with a team based from their home nation Luxembourg)
