Taylor Phinney was a "shoe-in" for the U23 time trial championship. I think if anyone can take anything from the Worlds, its that nothing is ever a foregone conclusion. Phinney won, but it took nearly all of his time trial skills to make up the deficit to Aussie Luke Durbridge after the final checkpoint. He did, but with less than 2 seconds to spare. German rider Marcel Kittel took third. Phinney's former teammate and great friend Alex Dowsett finished way off the pace after having high hopes coming into the race.
