Utah: Dowsett Moves into Lead

Dowsett claims yellow, Tanner takes stageAlex Dowsett may have even surprised himself today, dominating in the hills of Utah and finishing in the same time as winner David Tanner to take the yellow jersey. Tanner also rode very well and took the stage as well as second place in the General Classification.
Dowsett said in a post race interview that the only reason he rode so hard on the climbs was to avoid being dropped, and that he hardly expected to survive in the breakaway, let alone inherit the yellow jersey. Dowsett's yellow jersey also comes in part to the struggles that faced his teammate Taylor Phinney, who was dropped on one of the early climbs. Phinney was hardly upset, though, and was more than glad to see his teammate and close friend Dowsett take yellow. Many of the other favorites like Leipheimer, Hincapie, Sutherland, and Bookwalter finished in the first chase group, 26 seconds behind the 2 leaders.

Tomorrow's stage is very flat until it reaches the huge summit finish at the end. Expect a breakaway to get away early, get caught on the flat, and then a free-for-all on the final climb. This is the time for the climbers like Leipheimer to stake their claim to the front.
