Andre Greipel conserved his energy throughout the marathon 240 km stage 2 and then unleashed whatever he had left to take himself the stage and show why HTC Columbia may have a future after Cav. (referring to Cavendish's thoughts of perhaps not coming back after this year; nothing official) Greipel, who did not get selected for this year's Tour, showed that he can sprint with the best of them by finding himself a small hole to pass through on the tricky downhill finish to the line. Greipel was very happy with his 15th win of the year, and said it was "a great start to the second part of the season." Greipel's HTC Columbia squad did a lot of chasing work during the day when the field was trying to reel in a 4 man breakaway that managed to put quite a bit of ground on the field. They made the catch just in time, and the teams begin to move up their sprinters. Astana's Allan Davis took 2nd in the sprint, and also moved himself into the lead of the General Classification.
