Dan Martin Wins Tour de Pologne!

It it always a special day when you win your first ProTour event, and it is all the more special when you have to work for it all the way. Dan Martin enjoys both of those feelings right now, as he did successfully defend his lead to win the Tour de Pologne and it was not a "gimme." He and his hard working Garmin-Transitions teammates had to pull back a major attack featuring GC contenders Alessandro Ballan, Sylvester Szmyd, Vasili Kiryienka, and Michael Albasini. Ballan tried to go again later in the stage along with Mauro Santambrogio, but again the determined Garmin-Transitions squad pulled them back into the fold. Grega Bole, who started only 8 seconds behind Martin was also a constant threat as he has been known for spectacular bursts of speed and could have potentially bridged the 8 second gap. None were smiling as big as Martin at the end of the day, except maybe Andre Greipel.
Greipel won the bunch sprint on the slippery road for his second win of the race.
