Stage 20: Formality

Not a whole lot to say about this stage, as is the case with the last stage of the Tour. It was just a nice easy cruise into Paris for Alberto Contador and then he sat back to watch the sprinter teams play their version of a cat-mouse game. After finally reeling in a tricky 11 man breakaway, it was a battle between the sprinters to see who would take the green and who would take the glory in Paris.
Mark Cavendish again stated his dominance with his 5th stage win of the Tour, but the man who finished right behind him would be the real winner for the day. Alessandro Petacchi's 2nd place finish was more than enough for him to keep his green jersey and crown himself official champion of the sprinters (though he only won 2 stages compared to Cav's 5). The real story of the day came from the man in the red jersey quietly cruising his way up and down the Champs Elysees for the final time.
Lance Armstrong rode into Paris for one last time and though he was not in GC contention, did get to stand on the podium one last time with his team. I will have more later on a full roundup of the Tour, but for now I leave you with the final photos of this year's Tour.
