Lampre-Farnese is bringing an average lineup this year that features a few possible bright spots. This is one of the more unpredictable teams in the field, mostly due to their two headliner riders. The first is team leader Damiano Cunego.
Cunego is beginning to build a bit of a reputation of being inconsistent. The talent is clearly there, but he does not always perform completely up to expectations. If he is able to motivate and energize himself over the coming weeks, Cunego can certainly take himself a top 10 finish. If he does not, then this year could be yet another potential bust for him. Equally or maybe even more important than Cunego's riding is the work of Alessandro Petacchi.
Petacchi is probably one of the most elite sprinters in the field. He does not share the vast popularity of guys like Cavendish, Farrar, Hushovd, Freire etc, but he does share the talent. Petacchi is also a smart sprinter and is able to get himself into position if his teammates sometimes fail to do so. He will certainly be in the discussion for a stage win when the field is on a flat sprint stage. If Petacchi is unable to keep up to get to the sprint, Team Lampre also has a respectable backup.
Young Grega Bole has been impressive thus far this season, and has enjoyed some success against some of the world's best. His inexperience may be held against him in a race of this magnitude, but he can still steal a stage if things set up correctly for him.Full Roster:
Damiano Cunego
Simon Spilak
Alessandro Petacchi
Grega Bole
Mauro Da Dalto
Francesco Gavazzi
Danilo Hondo
