Contador to Appeal Ban

Claims innocence. Deems the sanction an "injustice"Alberto Contador has stated that he will appeal the proposed one year ban during his press conference Friday in Mallorca. And he had some pretty strong words to back himself up.

The Spaniard, along with manager Bjarne Riis, continued along with their same story of contaminated meat and insisted that Contador had nothing to do with the clenbuterol found in his blood testing.

Last year's TdF champ said he would "do whatever is necessary to defend [his] innocence to the end."

He continued on to criticize the system but reassured that he always complied with every regulation and request asked of him. "I have always trusted the test system, but I do not believe in it. It is obsolete and outdated."

Contador will have 10 days to file his appeal before the decision becomes final.

Contador showed no signs of defensiveness and clearly looked like he believed every word of what he was saying. So either he really is caught in the middle of an unfortunate mistake or he may be one of the most convincing liars of all time. That is for the authorities to decide.

Team manager Bjarne Riis was also present. When presented the question of what his backup plan is without Contador, he acknowledged the possibility but said that he would not disclose any of that information at this time. He too seemed somewhat optimistic about the potential for a successful appeal, but there will be much speculation in the next few days as to what his plans are for the future of Saxo Bank-Sungard.
