After a lengthy investigation, the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) ruled that the records and achievements of Alejandro Valverde will not be stripped of him. Instead, Valverde received a two year retroactive ban that will end on Jan 1 2o12. This was after the International Cycling Union and the World Anti-Doping Agency requested that Valverde's records be erased prior to the beginning of his suspension. This was the final verdict to a doping investigation that has been going on since late 2006 and really became mainstream news in October of 2007. Valverde will keep his several Tour de France stage victories as well as his overall wins in other stage races, as it was determined that he was not under the influence of doping at the time of his victories. Perhaps this will provide some much-needed closure to the blood-doping scandals and move the sport forward as a whole.
