The peloton, especially the members of the teams with injured riders, held a brief 2 minute protest against Mark Cavendish before the start of stage 5 in Switzerland. They held out to show that they are against his aggressive, and sometimes reckless sprinting. Of course this was triggered by the recent incident when he shifted lanes into Heinrich Haussler and sent Haussler as well as 2 other riders out of the race in the crash that followed. Cavendish was quoted as saying "I'm not going to say that I'm not at fault but I don't think I should have been held as the sole responsible." He also added that the injuries he suffered were the worst he ever had, but that he also acknowledged the injuries of the other riders. It was far from an apology from the "fastest man in the world", but none the less the peloton got going after just 2 short minutes and the stage is currently underway with Cavendish participating. I wouldn't expect Mark to be much of a presence from here on out, though, as the remaining stages don't really set up well for sprinters.
